Municipal House description
The stunning Art Nouveau building known as the Municipal House was built between 1910-1912, according to blueprints from architects A. Balšánek and O. Polívka. Its fantastic ornamentation is the product of the combined efforts of a number of great early 20th century artists: Mikoláš Aleš, Max Švabinský, František Ženíšek, Ladislav Šaloun, Karel Novák, Josef Mařatka, Josef Václav Myslbek, Jan Preisler, and, perhaps most famously, Alfons Mucha. Inside there a number of beautiful halls where various concerts, exhibitions, and social gatherings all take place. With room for up to 2,000 people, Smetana’s Hall is the city’s largest concert hall. © Prague.biz
