Old Jewish Cemetery

The cemetery was founded in the first half of the 15th century. The oldest gravestone is from 1439! The gravestones amount to a total of about 12 000 and a number of famous people are buried there including educationalist rabbi Jehuda Liwa ben Becalel called Rabbi Löw. According to a legend he created the animated being Golem who was supposed to protect the Jewish ghetto.
