History
In the peaceful area of Troja, surrounded by vineyards and directly across from the Prague Zoo, stands a marvellous baroque structure, Trojský zámek, or Troja Chateau. Count Václav Vojtěch of Sternberk, who belonged to one of the oldest aristocratic families among the Czechs, had it built between the years 1769 and 1685.  Inspired by Roman villas, the duke called upon architects Giovanni Domenico Orsey and later Jean Baptiste Mathey to create his dream.  The main hall is filled with decorative frescoes painted by Dutch artists Abraham and Izak Godin.  The dual-framed staircase leading into the garden is adorned with monumental sculptures depicting War of the Titans created by George and Paul Hermann of Dresden.
Exhibition

Enjoy the beauty of the Chateau’s vast gardens but be sure to visit “Eternal Summer in an Aristocratic Villa”, an exhibition comprised of several parts:

- “The Architecture and Ornament of the Chateau”, dedicated to the history of the Chateau itself

- “From Aristocratic Residences”, containing historical depictions of various breeds of dogs, horses, and other animals from aristocratic collections

- “Chinese Chambers of the Troja Chateau”, dedicated to a collection of wall-paintings in the Chinese chambers

- “The Picture Hall of the Gallery of the City of Prague”, including works from important 19th century artists

The Museum of Wine and Wine Cellars will guide you through the history of Czech wine-making. Appropriately located in the Chateau cellars, you may taste and purchase the very best that Czech and Moravian wineries have to offer.
